There are zip or tar.gz archives containing the PPDs of individual printer 
models for various HP  printer series on one of the HP web sites.

The reason I prefer the vendor's PPDs is that these reflect special 
properties of the individual printers in addition to the "generic" ones.
There is no need to compile anything else.
