[cups.bugs] [MOD] STR #3897: HP PhotoSmart C7280, default tray ignored

HP PhotoSmart C7280 has two input paper trays, one for "normal" sized paper
sheets and one for 4"x6" photo paper sheets (quality
Glossy). Using CUPS' web front end, I did create a printer queue for
printing photos.

I've installed HPLIP 3.11.3a, PPD files are recreated after upgrading and
labeld with version number 3.11.3a.


Problem: printing to this queue ignores default InputSlot and MediaType
configuration and prints always using normal paper from
default tray.

How to reproduce:


1) Use ImageMagicks convert to create a small sample image:

convert -size 100x20 label:"This is text" label.png


2) Print that image:

lpr -P rembrandt-photo label.png

Result: image is printed to normal paper (size A4).

This print process uses filters imagetoraster and hpcups and as backend
hp. Binary imagetoraster belongs to CUPS 1.4.7 and hpcups
and hp to package hplip 3.11.3a.


Implication of that bug: applications using cups interface (libcups) can't
print photos directly.


Questions:
Why is default configuration of CUPS queue rembrand-photo ignored?

CUPS is compiled from source, I'm running CUPS this way for approx. 2
years now, starting with version 1.3.11.
OS: Linux, GCC 3.4.6, GLIBC 2.3.6
