Greetings;

I am sharing the printers on this machine to my local network according to
the info displayed on this machine when looking at localhost:631. Running
pclos, 32 bit, on this machine.

Yesterday I needed to print something in plain text from this ubuntu
machine on my local network, so I fired up firefox & sent it to
localhost:631 on one tab, and this machines FQDN:631 on another, mainly so
I could copy/paste the printers name when adding a printer on the localhost
tab. Using http protocol, I was able to add the printer, and send it a
test page which printed just fine, although very slow to get started, I was
able to walk about 100 paces to this machine before the test pages paper
was even pulled into an Epson nx515.

However, none of the installed lp* stuff (cups 1.3.7 I think on the ubuntu
machine) is able to see anything or use it. /etc/init.d/cups has been
restarted several times.

From a shell on that machine:
gene at shop:/etc/cups$ /usr/sbin/lpinfo -v
lpinfo: No such file or directory

Is as verbose as it ever gets.

What is my next step to be able to do "lp -d printernamestring filename"
and have it work on the ubuntu box?

Thank you.
