As I said, I have checked our concrete 1.4.3 installations and not counting
files below /var, only the above mentioned files have been created or
modified after the installation of CUPS; btw: we are not talking about a
SuSE compiled CUPS, not even only about SLES but also Solaris.

In any case, you are right: re-creating the printers based on a script with
lpadmin and the PPD's would be the best way.
