I will look more in SNMP calls in cups api, but what about once I get the make and model. I mean where do I fetch and lookup PPD from? I dont see any PPDs in cups ppd folder. Also how to I figure out which PPD relates to the model and make I have.

Thanks,
Azuri

If you are only printing to HP laser printers, it is likely (but not guaranteed) that the printers will support PostScript and PCL. The "correct" implementation would be to use the snmp backend to query the IP address provided to get the make, model, and 1284 device ID which can be used to lookup a matching PPD.

So using cups API I was able to add printer after I linked it to generic Apple PPD. I had to link it to generic one as I dont know what ppd to choose and from where as I dint have much info about the printer user wants to add. so using this I was able to print perfectly fine on HP laserjet printers. My question is will this generic PPD work with any printer in the enviroment? Also I dont specify anything about printer driver, so I am using cups is intelligent enought to figure out on its own right?
