Queue names are inadequate and not changable

This is new in the last few years. I used to be able to set the queue name so that when I was starting a print I had a selection I could understand. I at one time had two HP-LaserJet-4M and one HP-LaserJet-5P and could easily direct to any one of them. Direct wired or LAN made no difference. I also changed the queue names to be Lj-4 and Lj-5, which is even easier.
Now, with an HP-LaserJet-Professional-M1212-MFP with both USB and LAN queues, I cannot set the name to show me the difference between them, so I can often not be done the way I want it.
I can change the description, but description does not show up anywhere when I am starting a print job in the GUI (openSUSE 12.1). It is the same from three different computers.
CUPS takes the descriptive string from the printer exactly and adds a -2 at the end and puts it into the queue name with no edit capabilities. That -1, -2, etc does not inform anyone of how the connection is made, and it's something that is easily forgotten. It also requires a full scan of the name. The edit MUST be put back in or put the -1, etc. at the far left.
