Trouble adding printer

Mike,

Thanks for your response.

When I tried to configure the 4M Plus, password was asked for and given. I quoted the error log as it looked like that was part of the problem.

When I set up the Officejet 5610, the password worked fine and the setup went through fine without problem. Same computer, same password and same OS, thus my question and continued bafflement. I used Hplip on both configurations with success on one and none on the other and tried to use CUPS "add a printer" on the 4M Plus with the result quoted.

Why would this work on one printer and not the other?

Perry

I have an old Laserjet 4M Plus which I have been able to configure previously using its Jetdirect card with Linux Mint 13 (on another computer). Can't seem to get there in Linux Mint Debian for some reason. Trying to configure through CUPS I get a "forbidden" message when I try to add a printer.

Trying to configure the 4M Plus through Hplip, I get a message at the end that Hplip can't connect to the CUPS server. Odd, as it connected fine to configure the 5610 and shows the printer and fax combination on the CUPS server. I would think it was a problem with the Jetdirect card, but my other computer with Mint 13 prints just fine.
