How to configure a printer in linux for active-backup mode?

E-Business printing is an important component in our implementation. Is there an updated configuration that we can use for CUPS servers that may be used for some sort of redundancy/failover (similar to an active/backup kind of setup)? We are also interested in the security of printing, in particular encrypted transport configuration and/or authenticated printing (w/certs).
