The "finding printers" of CUPS to my knowledge requires a properly
configured and running DNSSD (mDNS) or SNMP daemon,
and, in case of CUPS 1.5.x, a running cups-driverd to look for the
requested PPDs.
Check your system's configuration and provide a log-level debug
excerpt of your cups error_log from your next try.
