[cups] CUPS 1.7 und printing of UTF-8 text files

Hello,

We are using in production environment CUPS 1.4.3 to print UTF-8 text
files, and not only European languages / codepoints. We are using the
filter texttops (unmodified), but a special set of fonts which texttops
embeds into the resulting Postscript stream which then gets send to
the network printer.

I've installed now for testing a CUPS version 1.7.3 to investigate what
we could / should do. I learned that testtops is now (since 1.6) no
longer part of the CUPS distribution.

Can someone shed a bit light on the process pipeline CUPS is now using
to bring UTF-8 test files as Postcript to the printer, or point me to
some docs for this?
