The version of Linux is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation Release 6.3.

I've also attached the error-log file from today and yesterday.

General support is not available via the STR form. Please post to the CUPS user list for general support.

We'll need to know what Linux distribution you are using...

It may be useful for you to look at the /var/log/cups/error_log file since it will reveal any PAM errors or other issues preventing you from logging in.

I cannot make any changes to my printer. Every time I try to do anything in localhost:631/admin I receive the following error: "401 Unauthorized - Enter your username and password or the root username and password to access this page. If you are using Kerberos authentication, make sure you have a valid Kerberos ticket." I have the root username and password for my system, but there is no place to enter that info and I don't have Kerberos. The system I am running is not connected to any network. It is stand-alone and only connected to one instrument. This issue started because the instrument's software could not print anything directly to the printer. I ran debugging, which indicated that I should enable all options, but that didn't work. I installed an updated version of hplip, which should have fixed the problem, but now CUPS isn't allowing me to make any changes. Is it possible to reinstall CUPS or to restore it to defaults. I rarely use LINUX so I'm not very familiar with commands etc., so any detailed information for a fix would be incredibly helpful.
