[cups] CUPS Disaster: printer queues going AOL or becoming disfunctional

OK, I solved this one:

The server is using LDAP (OpenLDAP) for user authentifcation. I *didn't* have
the 'system' accounts (uid/gid < 50) in the LDAP database, but they were in
/etc/passwd, /etc/group, and /etc/shadow and /etc/nsswitch.conf listed passwd,
shadow, and group as 'ldap files'. Appearently, cupsd wants the lp user and
group to be IN the LDAP database. I'm thinking cupsd is not handling or
understanding /etc/nsswitch.conf properly. When I added the lp user and lp
group to the LDAP database, cupsd properly reads in the printers.conf file --
the printer queues are up and working proper when cupsd is (re)started and I
don't need to re-configure the printers manually once cupsd is fired up.

I don't know if this is a bug or feature :-)
