AIX is no longer a supported platform for CUPS (at least not explicitly).
The previous support (removed in CUPS 1.7) was for AIX 4.x and was
completely out-of-date for AIX 5.x.  But without AIX systems to build and
test, it was impossible to maintain.

I have no problem reusing scripts from the GNU Autoconf Archive, so long as
they do not introduce issues or problematic dependencies, or unnecessarily
increase the size of the configure script which is already a significant
portion of the source tarball, probably the single largest file...

Longer term I'd like to move away from autoconf, but that is a huge
undertaking in itself...
