I assume under http://localhost:631/admin after
clicking on something like "Add printer" and after
having successfully logged in there (usually as root)
your printer device is not shown there listed as
one of the autodetected printers.
Now it is! Thanks to your help, and further playing around
       my USB-connected Canon is detected.

So I could run my http://localhost:631, as root, add a printer,
and then, I believe, use the browse utility to point cups at
       /etc/cups/ppd/Canon_MF4700_Series.ppd.

And all finishes up smoothly, and I try to print a very small
text file, and lpq says that it is printing and then it is
       finished.

BUT NO PRINTED PAPER COMES FROM MY (connected and turned-on) PRINTER!!!!

I have very little hair, but am ready to rip the rest of it out. <G>

And my printing worked so well with wheezy!

What can I do?

Alan
