That 9100.ps contains in particular the string
  "Error handled by opdfread.ps"
but I cannot find 'opdfread' in the CUPS 2.0.3 sources
so that I assume it is not CUPS that produced
that problematic PostScript.

Regarding how to find out what that problematic PostScript
produced you may have a look at
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=961864#c10
therein see in particular
"For details what programs are run when processing"

The Ghostscript upstream authors spend a lot of time to
implement zillions of workarounds and fail-safe operation
for broken PostScript and nowadays mainly broken PDF
input for Ghostscript.
