Because they do not run on Solaris SPARC :-)

We use CUPS (until now 1.4.3) in the production env of our customers on
SLES 9,10,11 and Solaris SPARC to print UTF-8 text files and I do need provide a
homogene environment for both platforms and which installs apart from
the rest of the system.

Btw: Can you print with your solution as well Hebrew text? Just check
the attached UTF-8 file if all of the Codepoints do fine. You need
correct freefonts and charset mapping files. The defaults willl not
work.
