A bit off-topic but it might help others with a similar issue : I tried
running /usr/lib/cups/backend/dnssd instead of snmp, got a "DEBUG: Unable
to create Avahi client." error, installed the avahi package, and now the
printer is both seen with /usr/lib/cups/backend/dnssd and by the
"Administration > Printers > Find new printers" feature of the CUPS web
interface.

It still doesn't print, but it seems we're making progress.
