Well, of course that filter works on OS X (even on 10.11.3). The only thing is, you either need to 
compile Ghostscript from the sources, or install a package that contains it – e.g. MacTeX 2015 or higher,
which contains gs 9.16 in a configuration perfectly suitable for use with CUPS.
