I also wasn't able to reproduce by using cupsfilter on the ppd.

Some guy on IRC told me to do that, but I tried with -e and the output
PDF was completely identical to the input.

So the strange thing is that unless something has happened to the
printer, we have the situation that older Kubuntu (14.10) did print
normally.

Recently this printer worked fine in Windows.

So either the printer started bugging due to something (Linux?) or
something is amiss with the software now.

I have had it before that a wireless NIC would not work when I booted
Linux, it got turned off. Then I rebooted in Windows and it wouldn't
work there. Finally it got solved I don't know how, perhaps by doing
that "rfkill unblock all". The device state was messed up by Linux and
Windows could not recover it.

Not sure what to do next in any case, but at least I can print atm
without too much worries.

Right thanks.

I hope so too. Canon didn't know anything about it (at least the Dutch
Canon).

Ha, didn't even notice or look at that ;-).

I wish you could delete emails from mailing lists ;-).
