[cups] Cups 1.3.9 on Unix - Bell B2360dn prints 2 pages and pauses 2-3 seconds...then prints 2 more

I have a Unix system that has Cups 1.3.9 installed and only used for one
purpose... printing statements.

When printing anything from Unix using "SYSV" printing, it prints to
this Dell B2360 printer fast and page after page... When printing long
text reports through cups, it prints fast and page after page.

But, when printing statements, the forms software uses Cups for multiple
reasons... and it's this print that prints 2 pages... pauses a couple of
seconds... and then prints 2 more pages... and pauses again throughout
the entire process of individual print jobs for each customer (1
statement page for each customer sent to the printer as separate print
jobs).

The forms design software print using a PCL data stream. Printing
multiple pages of text (reports) using cups and SYSV printing print
fast.. no pausing... This is only when printing PCL data streams to this
Dell B2360dn using Cups.

I installed an old HP4000 in place of the Dell B2360dn.... and don't see
the pausing.

Buffering/memory capacity is suspected. Also, end of job
confirmation/wait is also suspected... but, it's unknown how to overcome
this or test for this.

The Cups printer is configured as a "socket" device and I have used RAW,
HPLaserjet pxlmono, and a Dell B2360dn specific PPD... all exhibit the
same pausing when printing PCL data streams through CUPS... the same
data streams through SYSV printing prints FAST (page after page) to the
printer.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
