I am sure if this is a duplicate, but for some reason, I am not seeing my response in archive.

Would really appreciate everyone's input.

Thank you,
Asya

Hello, Helge.

Thank you for responding to me.

There are Linux drivers (BrightQ - https://www.codehost.com/canon/) and I was able to get them to work on our CUPS server. There is an option to set Department ID and it works perfectly with Linux. Unfortunately, Windows ignores Department ID altogether, thus produces error 701. I've been playing with PPD files provided by codehost (no luck), emailed their support (no luck for now, though they are responsive). I also discovered: http://wp.xin.at/archives/668

I was able to download cque from a Europe based Canon site, though it doesn't fully work on our Linux system (some tabs are not working). I was able to print successfully from CUPS (print test page), but it's still not working when it comes to Windows.

I will forward you a copy of brightq PPD and Windows driver.

Thank you very much!
Asya

Asya,

as far as I could find out, this printer officially is only supported for Windows (don’t know if even Win 10) and MacOS.
I guess your problem can only be solved by some amount of re-engeneering and implementing workarounds for
some of the proprietary department ID management functions.

As I couldn’t find any driver downloads (except buying the printer), perhaps you could send me the Win driver package
off the list for me to have a look at and guess if and how difficult it would be to at least partially solve your problem(s).

Helge
