Alan,

FWIW, the default used to be "no", but is now "1d" (1 day) because many people wanted to have a way to re-print a recent job.  In most cases this won't cause problems, but obviously you'll want to tune things on devices with limited storage (although even a Raspberry Pi with a flash drive has more CPU, RAM, and disk than the original system I wrote CUPS on 20 years ago... :)
