[cups] 000* temp files in /var/spool/cups

Since these are owned by root, my guess would be temporary files from a backend that didn't clean up after itself, perhaps the LPD backend?
You might be able to figure out the "owner" by looking at the CUPS error_log file for the date/time those files were created.
