Hello,

I am troubleshooting some printer issues in a college environment on iMacs running 10.12.6, and have some questions about some errors I am seeing in the CUPS error log.

We have a lab of many iMacs with several printers of varying types.

Some of our printers have very intermittent printing issues wherein the print job will start and then stop at some point during print and will not restart.

On our printers connected to our network via ethernet we see "Communication Error" on the print queue on the Mac when the issue happens.

On a printer that is only connected via USB to on iMac, the Mac appears to think the job is complete when this happens, as does the printer.

The two issues described above may or may not be related. I am not sure.

I am attempting to replicate the issue and capture exact CUPS error logs when it occurs. Today I have not been able to recreate the error. Prints have been successful. However, I have some questions about some errors I am seeing in our CUPS logs in general. I don't know what they mean and am having trouble finding a resource that will assist me in learning the meaning. Some error messages I saw are below. My concerns are in red.

What does ERROR 32 and "Broken Pipe” mean?

I'd appreciate any assistance in understanding what these items in red mean.

Thank you!
