Helge and Tim,
Thank you very much for your kind help.
Installing hplip solved the problem. hpps was in fact included in the package, so printing is up and running, and the 'whatprovides' is a very useful yum-feature to remember.
Wish you both a pleasant Sunday!
Best regards
Hans.

$ sudo yum whatprovides /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps
hplip-3.15.9-3.el7.x86_64 : HP Linux Imaging and Printing Project
Repo : @rhel-x86_64-server-7
Matched from:
Filename : /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps
You should be able to just
sudo yum install hplip
(which will probably pull in at least a few additional packages as
dependencies).

---------------------------------------------
hpps is a part of the hplip (HP Linux Imaging and Printing) package. It should b e available as an installable
package also in the RH distributions (as is on the Ubuntu ones I am using).
If it is not, let me know – hpps is a Python script and seems not to have dependencies with other
parts of the hplip package – I could it mail to you off the list.
Helge
