Hi folks, Gernot

Back again after various other much less interesting work.

Had another go at this today. The punchline is that my job is now being accepted by the Xeros printer but it is O size, which is not much use to anyone.

Here's the long version:

1. I set up Print to File for various checks. That's OK. I can print to a file.

2. I need authentication which Xerox appears not to have built in, so followed Gernot's instructions for adding that. (These are detailed in the 'Setting up a file printer under CentOS7' thread of last month)

Then send test print from GUI to Xerox printer. File arrives but its 0 pages long.

3. Print to file: OK. File @ /tmp/foo is 5504 bytes.

4. Send the /tmp/foo file to Xerox printer. Nothing arrives.

5. Print to file from GUI. OK. /tmp/foo is 15987 bytes.
Send that from the command line with lpr.
Result: nothing arrives at printer.

6. Decide to turn on debug in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf & restart CUPS.

7. Try print direct to Xerox printer:
Result: Jobs arriving at printer 0 pages long.

8. Check logs (/var/log/cups/error_log):
D [10/Oct/2018:15:23:47 +0900] [Job 22] PID 14634 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftopdffx) exited with no errors.

D [10/Oct/2018:15:23:47 +0900] [Job 22] PID 14635 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftopjlfx) exited with no errors.
D [10/Oct/2018:15:23:47 +0900] [Job 22] /usr/lib/cups/filter/fxauth: 行 13: is: コマンドが見つかりません

FIXED a line break in /usr/lib/cups/filter/fxauth

9. Try print direct again:
Result: job arrived but was 0 size again.

10. Check logs:

D [10/Oct/2018:15:40:34 +0900] [Job 24] PID 14830 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/fxauth) exited with no errors.

D [10/Oct/2018:15:40:34 +0900] Returning IPP successful-ok for Print-Job (ipp://localhost:631/printers/11F1) from localhost

So now I have no errors, but the document I send arrives at the printer, but the printer tells me it's 0 pages long, and as a result, doesn't want to print it :-(

Now I'm stumped. For the moment. Any ideas?

Thanks for reading this far.

ian

p.s. Gernot, is your http://aikishugyo.jp/ offline? I thought I would check it but I'm getting: 530 Service Unavailable ...
