[cups] New desktop cannot connect to printer [FIXED]

Aha! I just replaced the LinkSys 5-port switch with a Netgear 16-port
switch. And now I can ping the printer:
$ ping 192.168.55.192
PING 192.168.55.192 (192.168.55.192) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.55.192: icmp_seq=1 ttl=60 time=4.25 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.55.192: icmp_seq=2 ttl=60 time=2.39 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.55.192: icmp_seq=3 ttl=60 time=2.41 ms

Just ran
$ ls | lpr -P laser5_duplex

and the directory list printed.

Wah-hoo!

Important lesson learned: an unmanaged switch can go bad.
