Yes, port 631 is enabled. I have discovered the redhat-config-printer-tui interface that has allowed me to at least add a printer. I have issued a lp command to this printer and it indeed shows up in the queue(/var/spool/cups). The lpadmin command works now that I have included the -h localhost parameter.
