DeskJet 5550 on USB problems sorted out

This is *NOT*  a CUPS issue at all.
for what ever reason, probably not having the hotplug daemon or similar,
I found that shutting down my computer and re-starting it cured the problem.

My machine is dual-booting into Windows XP Pro.
Evidently, something that XP does to the printer makes it necessary to shut the machine down to get the USB stuff sorted out.

I thought I'd better wrap it up with this report.
Maybe this will help someone else.
