PDF Printing from console

I have setup a cups printer with the pdf backend. It works great. I can open any program and choose to print to that printer, and it works as expected.

For example I made a file called mytest.txt opened it with kwrite and printed to the 'pdfgen' printer, it then made a pdf of my file in the location it was suppose to, and all the info I typed in kwrite showed in the pdf file.

However when I save that mytest.txt and then in the command line if I try <lp -dpdfgen mytest.txt> it makes the pdf in the proper location, however the pdf is blank. I also had a look at the /tmp/pdf.log that was created for both the working, and none working pdf files and they are the same.

If anyone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
