[cups.general] browsepoll issues

when tiger comes up it shows lp as owning the cups-polld processes (I have "BrowsePoll ipaddressoflinuxprintserver" in my cupsd.conf)
This produces both cupsd mach_msg errors and cupsd's bootstrtap server port errors.
If I kill cups and retsrat as root, the errors disappear but it still takes some 30 seconds for the priter dialog to respond.

I understood that the 30 seconds was the polling interval and I assumed that cups would essentially cache the printer list in between polls.  However,  that does not seem to be what is happening....

any ideas would be helpful
