I agree with you in general, but not with Samsung. Some Samsungs need
the splix driver, which is not (yet) included in openSUSE. Sorry, but
I discovered this driver first time last Friday. Therefore it cannot
be included in SUSE 10.0 (he has installed) nor in SUSE 10.2.

Still have a look at recommended http://www.linuxprinting.org site.
Some HP printers are not supported neither, even the chances are real
low, so have a look at http://www.linuxprinting.org about the support
state, as well as http://hpinkjet.sf.net (recommended even for non
inkjet printers from hp :-).

Initial poster might also want to have a look at Kyocera printers...
