"Failed allocation of pMonoData in PrintPage"?

System configuration:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (kernel 2.6.9-5)
cups-1.1.22-0
HP4550n connected to network switch via JetDirect

Problem:
All print jobs sent to the HP4550n abort.  I am not sure how to interpret cups-error-log entries below for troubleshooting, and would appreciate any helpful suggestions ... thank you!
