I think the tool you should really be looking for is Tea4CUPS [1].  I
think that would make it trivial to write a small script to do exactly
what you'd like.  I'm not a user myself, but I've generally heard good
things, and Jerome is really active and helpful in the CUPS/Pykota
community.
