cups printing in gnome

I am a bit new at this--I hope you all don't mind me asking.

I have configured my printer in CUPS (I finally added myself to the lpadmin group--am using lenny debian). It prints fine when I send a test page to the printer from the cups web interface, but any gnome application I try to send to the printer, the light on the printer blinks, says "processing," then stops and says "ready." KDE applications print fine too. Any pointers on where to start? should I take this up with gnome? Would this be anything mal-configured in CUPS?

Thanks.
