1.1.14 is *very* old (Dec 03, 2002).

And your PDF may be a new one, sporting features that were not
even heard of when CUPS 1.1.14 was developed....

I'd recommend to install a newer CUPS. http://www.blastwave.org/ 
may have nice packages for you....
