Cups + Lexmark E312 = pages of junk

As soon as I start the printer I get pages of @EJL 1284.4 @ EJL ....

Nothing I actually want to print will print. I have used cups for years without trouble so something has changed and broke recently.

This is Linux/Mandriva Cooker/Cups 1.3/Gutenprint 5.0.1
