My setup is as follows:
Linux (Debian) server running Cups 1.3.8 for two printers.
When it works it works well and is fairly easy to set up.
My Linux workstation has never had a problem with this.
Macbook notebooks are trying to connect as clients to the Debian Cups
server for printing. Under Tiger this has worked flawlessly almost all
of the time.
I've been having some difficulties with my Cups printer server this
week. Yesterday I lost all print capability from any of my Tiger mac
notebooks. Frustratingly there wasn't any updates anywhere, just that
the printer server had been off for 2 days.
I got some of it working earlier today but not all of it. OpenOffice
was a yes, Mozilla, PDF et al was a no.
Meanwhile I was upgrading one of my notebooks to the new Leopard
installation of the Mac OSX. Not a darn thing works. There's no
client.conf file on the notebook anymore and just a dumb cups server on
a notebook.
And a lot of comments on the internet about how badly broken the new
Leopard is for the Cups printers.
So, I'm wondering just how many people are familiar with this problem
and how this might be addressed.
I don't know that the Cups installation is the problem per se
considering I can print from my Linus boxes. But I don't think I'm
going to get a lot of help from Apple on this one.
help?
