It all depends on the vendor's implementation of IPP.  Unfortunately,
most vendors seem to go for the "do as little as possible" approach,
and some don't even conform to the minimum requirements of IPP/1.0!

That said, the current templates for the web interface don't show the
printer-state-reasons values - you can add "{printer_state_reasons}"
to the /usr/share/cups/templates/printers.tmpl file (it is HTML) to
see any state information being returned by the printer...
