Does lp command use filter when it prints Chinese or Japanese ?

Hello all,

i have looked for it for a while. it seems lp command can use filter when user tries to print out Chinese or Japanese text files encoded in utf8.
but i am not able to print out those files.

My question is that is there any way to let lp use filter and we don't need to convert text files to ps or something else and print it out ?
