no printer response, no error reported

I've compiled and installed the canon mx320 driver for 64-bit linux (mandriva 2010.2, kernel 2.6.33.7). All seems to have gone well, but when I attempt to print to this printer nothing happens; no printing, and also no error in /var/log/cups/error_log. (This is a dual-boot system, and I printing works under Windows.)

Here's what I've done so far:

cupstestppd reports "Pass", although with several warnings about non-standard names for page sizes

lpstat-cups -a reports:
Canon-MX320-series accepting requests since Tue 23 Aug 2011 01:31:20 PM EDT
Cups-PDF accepting requests since Tue 23 Aug 2011 09:04:19 AM EDT
HP-LaserJet-2420 accepting requests since Tue 23 Aug 2011 01:30:54 PM EDT

lpr-cups HP-LaserJet-2420 somefile.txt works fine
lpr-cups Canon-MX320-series somefile.txt produces no response from the printer, but in the web interface to cups, "Show Completed jobs" lists the job as completed. (I haven't tried printing to Cups-PDF)

Any suggestions would be most welcome.
