I neither know about the particular model Brother mfc-680cn
nor about the Ubuntu distribution but in general shifted or cut
printout about 3 cm looks as if the media size A4 versus Letter
does not match because A4 is about 3 cm higher than Letter.

The media size in your document which you like to print must match
to the media size settings in CUPS for your print queue and this
must match to the actually loaded paper in the printer device.

Otherwise you get random results.
