CUPS 1.6 and PPD's going away

Is there any doc / whitepaper out there on what all this change will entail?  I have quite a bit of custom programming done around MIME types, custom filters and custom PPD's, so I'd like to try and stay ahead of the game.  I'm hoping to just make the jump from 1.4.x to 1.6.x and skip 1.5 alltogether when the time comes but trying to keep my development roadmap in line with yours.
