[cups] version incompatibility between server and client

Hi all,
currently I experience problems after upgrading the linux client to cups 1.7.1.

My setup:
USB printer Canaon Pixma IP4800 connected to server.

server: raspberrypi with cups 1.5.3
twp printers: lp0 is a raw printer, lp1 has the gutenprint driver

Client:
gentoo linux, two local printers:
client_lp0 with commercial driver (Turbprint) linked to lp0 at raspberrypi
client_lp1 with gutenprint linked to lp0 at raspberrypi

The printer from raspberry pi are detected correctly by the client.

Having cups 1.6.4 installed on the client, the following printings work:
a) printing a pdf via client_lp0 and client lp1 'client side rendering'
b) printing a pdf straight on lp1 at rasperrypi 'serverside rendering'

After upgrading the client to cups to 1.7.1 printing via client_lp0 and client_lp1 doesn't work anymore. Server side rendering (b)) continues to work. The job is precessed on the client successfully. On raspberrypi the data are received, a job is created, connected to USB backend, processed and then disconnected. The error_log file shows no error entries. All seems fine, but nothing is printed at all, not a single page. The page-Log states that the print job as been processed successfully, but no paper.

When downgrading to cups 1.6..4 everything works as normal, no problem with client side rendering.

Did anybody experience similar?
Best regards,
Klaus
