Yes, it's all quite strange :). Still, I think I might have found the
commit fixing this issue in a newer version of ghostscript:

...the issue being discussed in there seems to be pretty much the same
one that we could be spotting here, I believe.

I'm now in the process of trying this theory out in my system by
building ghostscript with and without the patch, and trying it out in my
system. Will hopefully post soon the results here.
