[cups] New printer difficulties

I recall to you that I have a Canon imageCLASS MF4770n, attached to my computer by
a USB cable. While I was still using Debian wheezy, it worked fine. Now I have
installed Debian jessie -- a tortuous process -- and my printing does not work.
I have procured what I hope is a proper ppd for this Canon. It is installed in my
/etc/cups/ppd directory; it is called Canon_MF4700_Series.ppd, and the file utility
tells me that it is a PPD file, version "4.3". It is 98533 bytes.
Armed with this, I use my browser -- as root -- to add my printer, using
http://localhost:631/admin. But I am given no way of telling the system that
this is a _local_ printer, attached by a USB cable. Can Helge, or some other
expert, tell me how to add this printer, using the driver given above, and
attached with a USB cable?
Thanks in advance for all help/suggestions!
Alan
