[cups] Epson WF7620 not responding

I've installed an Epson WF7620 and am using both the 
epson-inkjet-printer-escpr and TurboPrint drivers.  Printing 
functionality seems OK.

When the printer has not been in use for a time, printing from an 
application like Acroread fails.  CUPS says something like "Printer Not 
Responding".  If I print a test page, that prints OK.  After this, I can 
print from Acroread.

I'm guessing that the printer goes into a sleep mode and needs something 
to wake it up which is being provided by printing the test page but not 
by printing from an application.  But I don't know how to tell.

Any suggestions?
