For my HP LaserJet printer I have set up the connection locally like 
this which works well (using another PC as a print server connected to 
the printer with usb):

ipp://10.0.0.242/printers/HP_LaserJet_P2055dn

For another HP OfficeJet Pro printer I have this connection locally:

socket://10.0.0.135:9100
