Adobe PS-driver generates huge jobs (1MB doc -> 400MB ps)

Hi all,

printing to a HP Deskjet 6127 with Foomatic/hpijs and Adobe's ps-driver
(ppd downloaded from www.linuxprinting.org) takes *very* long or simply
does not work, because the driver generates *huge* ps-files.
Example: a MS-Word document of 1MB, (one page with eight small pictures)
  gets translated into a ps-document of >400MB. Is this normal? I can't
believe it...
(Windows XP, Office XP SP2)

I guess that the driver generates a single ps command for every pixel of
the included pictures instead of including them as raw binary data into
the ps output. How to change this?
Use of the cups ps driver is not an option here, because it crashes with
general protection fault when users click on the properties tab.

Do I have to switch from server based postscript RIP to the original HP
driver? I would like to avoid this because I love the principle of doing
everything via postscript with three driver files...

Thanks a lot for your help!

Regards
Christoph
