Mac OS Adobe Pagemaker -->CUPS--HP Printer Problem

Hello,

I have been working on implementing a print server solution across my work environment and I am coming up with some intriguing problems.

On the LAN the available components are:

1) Various Apple Macs ( OS 8.x -- OS X)
2) 4 Networked HP printers ( HP 2100, HP 2200, HP 2250 & HP 4600)
3) A Linux (CUPS) Print Server

The entire LAN is communicating via AppleTalk.

The applications used by the clients are generally Adobe Pagemaker v. 6.5 - v.7.0

During the past few days of implementation, several problems have occured. Among them are:

1) A direct print from Mac Applications to Printer prints perfectly. However, print jobs sent to the spooler eventually prints gibberish.

2) However, the symptom mentioned above is not always the case. In other words, certain Pagemaker files print fine via the spooler whereas other Pagemaker files seem not to parse through the spooler correctly resulting in gibberish.

I am wondering, if there are additional settings and configurations that needs to be done to the CUPS server and/or the client end to solve this issue.

A point to note, is that the environment that we have is a desktop publishing house. In other words, some of our documents set for printing can get very graphic intensive with possibly many fanciful fonts.

Anyone with some previous experience with similar working environment as I do would care to give me some pointers and advice to start my trouble shooting?

Thank you all in advance. Prompt replies are very very appreciated.

Best regards,
Adrian
